International Workshop on Telehealth, patient empowerment and education through technology

Scope

Telehealth and telemedicine refer to the use of telecommunications and virtual technology to deliver health care. In the present, technological development transformed healthcare. Systems evolution including data analytics, artificial intelligence, the Internet of things, increased connecting and use of health-related mobile allowed this transformation. Recently, telemedicine developed due to the increasing availability of systems and access but also growing demand of solutions during COVID-19 pandemic. Recent trends change health care monitoring and recovery from the healthcare institutions to a patient-centered care delivered at home.
Additionally, patient empowerment is a focal point in healthcare evolution, to allow patients to manage their health and adapt to chronic diseases. Technological advancements play a central role in the promotion of patient empowerment by providing access and remote support that might contribute to overcome challenges of geographic location and promote equal access to healthcare.
The aim of this session is to share different perspectives, experiences and research around technology applied to health with particular emphasis on patient empowerment through its use. Data management, safety and interoperability, artificial intelligence algorithms and biomedical sensors are important topics to discuss, integrating not only the systems creating and usability but also highlighting the final goal and consequent health improvement. Additionally, the use of technology to support healthcare professionals continuous learning and professional development is also an important topic to be discussed.
This session aims to be useful beyond its duration, so the results of presentations and a summary of the discussion will be compiled and publish after the workshop to allow further spreading.
