Scope
Recent years have seen a transition of smart cities services towards massive usage of cloud infrastructures and pervasive devices. There is an increasing interest in developing innovative methods that can use the huge amount of data that the latest generation of smart devices produce.
At the same time, open access to data and services fostered the adoption of crowdsourcing as an important and fast-growing area of interest to the GoodTechs community. Crowdsourcing exploits the motivation of users to tackle problems affecting their communities, thus distributing the development effort in a scalable way.
However, the products of this self-regulated model often introduce security issues, in particular related to the respect of the privacy of users and to resilience against undue interferences and manipulation. Ensuring confidentiality and authenticity of crowsourced data throughout computations performed by end-user devices and cloud-hosted services is increasingly a stringent requirement, formally called for by new directives such as the EU’s GDPR.
In order to actively support research and knowledge exchange on topics utilizing or improving crowdsourcing paradigms, the organizers of this special session encourage contributions that model or evaluate the security concerns involving both user’s data and computational approaches that handle them.
Topics
Authors are solicited to submit original, previously unpublished papers in the following, but not limited to, topic areas:
* Privacy by Design in crowdsourcing application development
* Secure software engineering and best practices applied to crowdsourcing
* Privacy-related data mining, pattern discovery, and cross-correlation
of data sets
* Machine Learning techniques for the detection of malicious activity
* Privacy-enhancing techniques (anonymization, masking, etc.)
* Data quality and data provenance management
* Ethical-, privacy- or security-related issues in crowdsourcing
White papers on security requirements, position papers on future perspectives, and similar submissions regarding the evolution of crowdsourcing will also be considered.
Publication
Accepted papers will be included in the Conference Proceedings. Proceedings will be submitted for inclusion in leading indexing services, Ei Compendex, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, CrossRef, Google Scholar, DBLP, as well as EAI’s own EU Digital Library (EUDL).
Authors of selected best accepted and presented papers of the whole conference will be invited to submit an extended version to:
- Mobile Networks and Applications (MONET) Journal (IF: 3.259)
- Multimedia Tools and Applications (MTAP) Journal
- EAI Endorsed Transactions on Cloud Systems
- EAI Endorsed Transactions on Serious Games
Paper submission
Papers should be submitted through EAI ‘Confy‘ system, and have to comply with the ACM format (see Author’s kit section).
Important dates:
Full Paper Submission deadline: 14 September 2018
Notification deadline: 5 October 2018
Camera-ready deadline: 1 November 2018
Conference: 28 – 30 November 2018
We will be grateful to you for advertising this special session, for contributing and for inviting your colleagues and/or research students to submit their work. We hope to meet you in Bologna in November.
